German’s qualifier Mona Barthel cruised to her first WTA title by beating Yanina Wickmayer 6-1 6-2 in the final of the Hobart International.
The 21 year old Barthel, who is no.64 in the rankings, has beaten Anabel Medina Gariggues, Angelique Kerber and Jarmila Gajdosova on her way to the final.
She is ready for the Australian Open that starts next week.
“I have to relax now a little bit and of course I will celebrate,” Barhtel said after the match. “I’ve never been in Melbourne Park before, so I will look everywhere and see and then I will try to have a hit, try to get used to the courts.”
