Wawrinka and Mayer through to second round in Shanghai

The Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Juan Monaco of Argentina 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round at the Shanghai Rolex Masters. The no.13 seed will now play either Donald Young or a wild card holder Mao-Xin Gong.

Florian Mayer of Germany didn’t have to work too hard for his victory against Fabio Fognini of Italy as he overpowered him 6-0, 6-2. The German will now face Ernest Gulbis or David Nalbandian in the next round.

World no.1 Djokovic withdrew from the event due to back injury that he suffered in the Davis Cup semifinal match against Juan Martin del Potro.
