Pavlyuchenkova and Safarova through to 2nd round in Linz

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia dismissed Anabel Medina Garrigues in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the first round of the Generali Ladies Linz.

After losing the second set, the fourth seed Pavlyuchenkova took a 5-0 lead in the third, but only managed to convert her 4th matchpoint to seal the set 6-3.

Lucie Safarova of Czech Republic overcame Iveta Benesova 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the second round. She will now play either Sabine Lisicki of Germany or Alberta Brianti of Italy.
