Japanese Kei Nishikori, who has pulled off a superb performance at the Shanghai Masters, is set to become the highest ranked Japanese player in history.

Nishikori’s current ranking is 47, but held the 46th position in May. It was the previous record holder Shuzo Matsuoka’s maximum.

The 21 year old Nishikori will set the new best on Monday when the rankings come out.
