Brit Andy Murray defeated David Nalbandian of Argentina in the quarterfinal of the Japan Open in Tokyo 6-4, 7-5.
World no.4 Murray needed one break only in the first set as he held his serve all the way through. The second set saw two breaks up to 5-5 and when the British no.1 broke the Argentinian’s serve, he held his nerve and closed out the match.
Murray will now play Spaniard Ferrer for a place in Sunday’s final.
In the other semifinal, world no.2 Rafa Nadal, who beat Santiago Giraldo 7-6 (6), 6-3, will play Mardy Fish who eliminated Bernard Tomic 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1.
