PinExt Kvitova, Jankovic and Goerges win in Linz

Top seed Petra Kvitova advanced at the Generali Ladies Linz in Austria, after beating the Canadian Rebecca Marino 6-2, 6-2. The 2011 Wimbledon Champion will play either Patricia Mayr-Achleitner or Stephanie Foretz Gacon in the second round.

In other matches, Julia Goerges of Germany beat Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia in a very tight match 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6), Dominika Cibulkova got through to the next round after Elena Baltacha retired from the match at 4-6, 7-6 (3), 1-0  in the Slovakian’s favour adnd former world no.1 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia made her way into the second round as her opponent Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine retired at 4-1 to Jankovic.

how she tihnks the #1 ranking is a realistic goal and how keen she is to try and gain this Slam that has eluded her.I'll also be following Safina and Dementieva who I think have a good chance at making an impression in what most has to be considered a seriously depleted field.Also, I'd like to meet these people who think that the current state of the women's game (and the top 30) points towards evidence of more depth there...
