Defending Tokyo champion Rafael Nadal’s, as well as David Nalbandian’s foundation and East Japan Earthquake Charity Fund were presented cheques on centre court at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships that will start this upcoming week.
The cheques were given out by ATP CEO Brad Drewett.

“For me, and especially for my Foundation, it’s important,” said Nadal. “We are working hard on a few projects and to receive a cheque like this is very positive and for sure will help a lot.”

The Foundation of Rafael Nadal focuses on socially disadvantaged youth, providing them with opportunities in their life. David Nalbandian’s Foundation is helping people with disability to make their lifes better.

“I’m happy because here it’s very far away and it’s tough for our Foundation to work hard and be able to do a lot of stuff,” said Nalbandian.

JTA (Japan Tennis Association) is also trying to help the victims and people affected by this March’s earthquake and tsunami by providing funds to the Japan Red Cross and local youth tennis groups through the Tohoku Tennis Association.
