American Mardy Fish set up a semifinal encounter against Rafael Nadal at the Japan Open when he outsted the Australian Bernard Tomic in the quarterfinal, beating him 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1.

The breaking point in the match was the 9th game in the second set, when Fish broke Tomic’s serve, despite being down 0-40. He held his serve to win the set and dominated in the third.

In the other semifinal, Andy Murray, who beat David Nalbandian of Argentina 6-4, 7-5, will face the Spaniard David Ferrer, who eliminated Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic 6-2, 7-6 (3).
