Ferrero and Ferrer victorious at Shanghai Masters, Melzer out

Former world no.1 Juan Carlos Ferrero beat fellow countryman Fernando Verdasco in the second round of the Shanghai Masters 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and will meet David Ferrer of Spain in round three.

David Ferrer, who is on a good way to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals (currently ranked 5), eliminated Milos Raonic of Canada 7-5, 7-6 (7).

No.14 seed Jurgen Melzer failed to reach round three as went down against Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5). Melzer has been struggling with his form since July.
