American James Blake found his old form as he upset second seed Juan Martin del Potro in their second round match in Stockholm, beating him 6-4, 6-4 and moving into the quarterfinals.

The 69th ranked Blake has won this tournament on two previous occasions, in 2005 and 2006. He hasn’t had a very successful year and this is his first quarterfinal since he got into the last eight in Stockholm last year.

“This is my best win of last three years,” said Blake after the match. “This is the best I’ve felt on court for a long time. To get a win like this against a top player is great.”

In other second round matches, South African Kevin Anderson eliminated the German veteran Tommy Haas 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4 and will now play against either Gael Monfils or Bernard Tomic.

Milos Raonic of Canada reached the quarterfinals after defeating German Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-3.
