Fourth seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia eliminated the Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova in the semis of the Pan Pacific Open, winning in straight sets 7-6 (2), 6-0.

Kvitova got into the semifinals after Maria Sharapova had to retire from their quarterfinal match as she twisted her ankle and was unable to carry on in the match.

Zvonareva, despite being 5-1 down in the first set, managed to stay cool and produced an unbelievable comeback. After winning the first set tie-break 7-2, she didn’t allow the Czech a single game in the second set.

Zvonareva will play Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in Saturday’s final. Radwanska defeated Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the other semifinal match.
