Tennis fans throughout the world were treated to a truly unforgettable US Open semi-final this afternoon as Novak Djokovic took Roger Federer all the way to the fifth set of their clash, finally getting the edge with a 6-7 (9), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 win.

In a match that was littered with mistakes by the Swiss pro – Federer twice failed to convert match points at a crucial stage in the game – Djokovic entertained the crowd in more ways than one. Displaying victory signs raised to the sky, chest thumps, fist pumps and double-hand waves, Djokovic brought the house down around the defeated Federer’s feet.

With Djokovic sailing through to another potentially epic battle on Monday where he will face Rafa Nadal in the final, what’s left for Federer this season? With 16 Grand Slam trophies currently to his name – certainly not a number to be sniffed at – will we see the former world number 1 getting back on his game and adding another one to that list?
